TAKING MONEY OUT OF THE POCKETS OF PRIVATE ENTREPRENEURS
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR TAX DOLLARS! |
Oh, sure, the proponents will say that the district's bureaucracy will be spending freely locally, and that its projects will spread greenbacks throughout the economy. But, is that actually true?
There is a fallacy that has been circulated for as many decades as I can remember, namely that a multiplier effect from government spending of $1.00 will result in a positive $2.00 effect on the economy. However, the outcome of the expenditure by the government of $1.00, in reality, produces a negative multiplier. Quite simply, taxpayers would have less discretionary dollars, and it is indisputable that those of us forced to pay more taxes will not have as much money to spend on goods and services. And this, in turn, depresses economic activity. In other words, the money coerced from us in the form of property taxes would not be going to forward-looking local entrepreneurs and aspiring small business owners, who would be more likely than government to produce jobs. And, finally, given the oft-seen inefficiencies of bureaucracies and government- concocted schemes, the likelihood of an overall negative effect on the local economy would be high.
Finally, let's keep these two salient points in mind:
1. Cameron County is one of the poorest counties in America.
2. The services that would be provided for Cameron County residents by the healthcare district are already being provided.
Now, does it make any sense to vote in favor of a healthcare district for Cameron County?
