Cameron County Healthcare District

The number one issue now facing our county is the proposed boondoggle known as the Cameron County Healthcare District, which has great potential to bring about soaring property taxes and the imposition of financial hardship on those who can least afford it, namely those of limited income, senior citizens and young families.

Designed to favor those with political clout and surreptitiously navigated through the Texas legislature, this scheme would foster a new bureaucracy, which would be nearly impossible to get rid of once in place.  The blueprint for this new taxing district would allow it to have the power of eminent domain and to raise the property tax assessment anywhere from 25 cents to 75 cents per each $100 of assessments.  This is intolerable, and especially so since it would essentially preempt existing agencies presently providing services the district would duplicate.

Please get the word out to the hard-working, tax-paying citizens of Cameron County.  We must defeat this attempt to create more patronage positions for Cameron politicos in the November election!

  1. Yes, Mr. Barham .. we need to fight this Hospital Taxing District with everything we can muster. Behind the scenes, several Cameron County Residents are seeking the information we need. As soon as this information is available we will share it with the taxpayers.
All Cameron CountyProperty Owners need to educate themselves on this massive bureuacracy and inform their friends and neighbors. If we let the powers now in charge put this upon our backs, we will forever be under their thumbs. This is large government in a small county .. it is socialism at its worst. It will not give us any relief on the taxes we now pay, but will add many more hundreds of dollars to our tax bills. And for what? To pay for indigent care that our county taxes are already paying for. And to support a gargantuan Hospital Taxing District with 9 appointed directors that do not answer to the voters. I will comment more at a later date when I have info and numbers that will shock our voters.
